White Oak Dining Table with Lazy Susan

This six-foot round solid white oak dining table was custom-made for a client in Black Forest. The client provided multiple photos of tables showing elements they wanted incorporated. After several rounds of discussion and design, the final table was built. While an accurate weight was never calculated, once completed, it weighed in the neighborhood of 500-600 lbs. 

Cherry Fireplace Console

Cherry was selected for this fireplace console because its grain pattern most closely matched the black bookshelves the client owned, to which it was to be attached. When completed, the console was to be dyed black to match the bookshelves. However, once the client saw how beautiful the cherry looked, they opted not to dye it or attach it to the bookshelves. Instead, side pieces were made to make it a standalone unit, and a natural finish was applied that enhanced the cherry’s natural beauty.

Office Built-in

A custom, white office built-in was requested to feature glass shelves that allowed light to pass through, which allowed items on each shelf to be showcased. The client wanted the doors to be simple and with no hardware. Instead, simple finger-grabs along the top of each door were made. The LED lighting was motion-controlled, with each brightness level activated with a simple wave of the hand. White enamel was sprayed for a factory-like finish.

Distressed White Oak Outdoor Chairs

With white oak’s grain properties being different than red oak, it is perfectly suitable for outdoor use when paired with the proper exterior finish. These chairs were distressed, treated with deep penetrating epoxy to make them weather resistant, painted to match the decor in the client’s backyard, distressed again, and then sealed with three coats of exterior finish for even more outdoor protection. We liked them so much that we made an extra pair to be used inside our home.

Gated Entryways

Five gated entryways in various sizes and configurations were created for a church to keep young children safe from each classroom’s opening and closing door. The gates were constructed of poplar and the stub walls of cabinet-grade birch plywood. They were then painted, and formica was applied to the top rails, to match the existing color scheme and countertops in the children’s classrooms.

Staircase with Mitered Corners

Solid red oak stair treads with mitered white risers provide this staircase with a sleek yet traditional look. Simple wrought iron balusters allow the staircase’s beauty to have prominence and were perfectly fitted into each stair tread and the handrail above. The handrail was already in the home but was refinished to match the stair treads. Lastly, a commercial-grade finish was applied for added durability. Please note: Due to insurance and code requirements, I do not do staircases for clients. This was done in our own home and is provided here to show previous work.

Prayer Kneelers

Made for the same church as the gated entryways above, these prayer kneelers wrapped around the front worship stage and were designed to match the existing stage pieces. In total, eight kneelers were made and topped with thick padding for comfortable kneeling on Sunday mornings.

Cutting Boards & Charcuterie Boards

Cutting boards and charcuterie boards make great gifts for others or yourself. They can be made from a variety of closed-grain woods such as walnut, maple, cherry, zebra, purple heart, and more. We do not recommend open-grain woods such as oak and ash because they are very porous and can absorb food particles and juices more easily. Soft woods such as pine and poplar are also not recommended due to their ability to be easily scarred by knives. Unless otherwise requested, the boards are finished with a food-safe combination of mineral oil and beeswax.

Pour-Over Coffee Display Servers

One of my big passions is coffee, so I make and sell pour-over coffee servers constructed of either walnut or maple hardwood plywood that feature exposed layered edges for a contemporary look. They can also be made using a solid hardwood of your choice. They are available in couple of different styles and in single and double-serve options. They make a perfect gift for the coffee-lover!

In a previous life I built tiny houses that appeared on HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters, FYI Network’s Tiny House Nation, and the nationally syndicated program The Doctors. Please note: I no longer build tiny houses. Rather, they are shown here as examples of previous work.

Furniture Refinishing

A client reached out with the desire to refurbish this rustic dining table they purchased in the early ’90s.  The table skirting and legs were in great shape, but the top was tired and worn out from years of use. After some consultation, the choice was made to just refinish the top in a contrasting color. They now have a table that looks as good as new and will continue to serve them for many years.
